Asphalt Shingles
The most popular product in the U.S. residential roofing market, modern asphalt shingles are usually reinforced with fiberglass or organic materials for strength and durablity. The material used to reinforce a shingle has little effect on its appearance. We also offer reinforced shingle products in laminated (architectural) grades that provide a textured appearance.
Asphalt shingles are a proven roof covering material. Available in many styles, shapes and colors, asphalt shingles are suitable for most residential projects. Architectural shingle types - such as laminates - are increasing in popularity. Properly installed asphalt shingles will not only protect your roof from water; they will enhance the beauty, character and value of your property.
Fairchild Roofing is certified with the following shingle manufacturers:
- GAF

Types of asphalt shingles include

Wood Shingles
Most wood shingle roofs are made from western red cedar for its durability and resistance to insect damage; some are made from preservative-treated pine or similar species. Wood shingles can be smooth, although rustic and rough-hewn shingles (called shakes) are also available. Shingles and shakes come in a variety of lengths, usually 16, 18, or 24 inches and in a wide range of widths.
Shingles typically nailed to 1-by-6-inch boards spaced a few inches apart, a form of construction that allows air circulation under the wood to prevent the shingles from becoming soggy. Shakes, on the other hand, are laid so that each course alternates with strips of roofing felt, a method that ensures a weather-tight surface.
In some cases, wood shingles and shakes can be installed directly over existing roofing materials, such as asphalt shingles or an existing layer of wood shingles.
